Practice practice practice 'defensive' play. It makes a real difference. When the baddies are firing anything at you, press 'space bar'. That's block, and most of the time prevents the player from getting hurt.

Pressing 'space' when moving of course gives us movement like 'roll', or Anjali 'dash'. It also prevents any damage occuring. In boss fights in an arena, you might as well turn off the mini-map.

In the game, press escape to get the game menu. There you can change the difficulty, and remember to click apply. If you reload with a save prior to changing difficulty, I think you have to change difficulty again. This is probably good advice when there is no other option.

If you are locked in an arena with a tough opponent, then after a few hours it seems like a good idea. If you can freely retreat from your foe and do other mini-quests, that's got to be the wisest route.
